True Book Fair

The True Book Fair is a program designed by 2023 School Librarian of the Year Julie Stivers during her tenure as the school librarian at Mount Vernon Middle School in Raleigh, NC. Unlike traditional book fairs which rely on the resources of families in the school community to distribute books to students, the True Book Fair enables each student at school to select new books they'd like to own and take them home for keeps, free of charge. As the name implies, the goal of the True Book Fair is to be truly fair for everyone.

TBF at Rashkis

In February 2025, Rashkis Elementary School will host our first True Book Fair. This program is made possible by the tireless efforts of our PTA and a generous grant from the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Public School Foundation

In the days leading up to our annual Literacy Week, each class will visit the book fair as a group. Students will have the opportunity to select two books to take home. Students who are absent on their class visit day will have the opportunity to visit another day, with the goal being that every student has two new books to use for Literacy Week activities starting Friday, February 21.
